Probably already many of you have had this problem: your friends are coming to visit you here in Lund and they are either not students or their travel budget don’t allow them to buy a nation card. How are you going to show them Lund’s nightlife? And what else can you do to entertain them? Luise Krumm gives you the guide you want.
Here are some ideas and this week’s events for non-students during the daytime:
Guided City Walks
This might be an option to keep history interested parents entertained. Unfortunately, there aren’t any this week, but sometimes Lund’s tourist office is offering guided city walks in English. The guide knows a lot about Lund’s history too.
Free Photography:
Lund’s konsthall (Martenstorget 3) shows currently ‘The Opposite of Me Is I’, an exhibition by the photographer Miriam Bäckström. The exhibition shows modern Swedish photography and is a good occasion for you to impress with Lund’s cultural side. Besides, that it’s a nice way to entertain low-budget travelers because they do not have an entrance fee.
Here is the nightlife this week:
Arabic Music and free food:
TSIL, the student organization of the NGO Tamam is organizing their Internationen Event this Thursday. This time it will take place from 6 to 10 pm at Wermlands nation. Enjoy their vegetarian food while listening to Arabic music. Unbelievable but true, everything is free and no student ID is required.
Relaxing concert:
You want to recover from all the sight-seeing?! – Try this:
Have a beer at Mejeriet and listen to Mejeriet’s Friday concert with the chilled American indie song singer and songwriter Damien Jurado.
Every week options:
Meet students outside the nation:
To get a glimpse on student life outside the nations I suggest to have a beer at Café Ariman (Kungsgatan). Drinks are still relatively cheap compared to other places and often they have nice DJs.
Have a dance outside the nations
Hercules bar (Stortorget) has a nice cocktail bar atmosphere and a down stair dance floor. You can be sure to meet students there as well.
Another option for dancing is T-bar, a night club, located in the AF-building which opens every Friday night from 11pm to 3 am. They play mostly electronic music. To avoid queuing you can buy your tickets in advance at lunch time, between 11.30 and 13.30, at the restaurant Tegner Canteens which is also located in the AF-building.
However, watch out: T-bar accepts only people without student ID that are 24 years or older. Students have to be at least 20 years.
So, I hope you got some inspiration to plan your friends’ visits in Lund. See you in two weeks again.
