It is done. Former student of Lund, Elisabeth Gehrke, will be the President of the European Student’s Union, ESU. This after the vote that was held at ESU’s committee meeting in Vienna last weekend.

Elisabeth Gehrke has been active in the Social Sciences Student Union, Lund University Student Unions and The Swedish National Union of Students. At the moment, she is a Vice President and Trustee of the European Students’ Union, and she will become President of the ESU the first of July this year.

“I’m very honoured and glad to have this opportunity. This coming year, at the ministerial meeting in Yerevan concerning the Bologna process, we will convince the new members of the European Parliament, the new Commissioner and the Ministers of Education to do what benefits students and higher education in Europe,” Elisabeth Gehrke says in a press release.

“This will not be an easy task, but our new team and I are definitely looking forward to the challenge.”

Norwegian Vice President

Erin Nordal from Oslo University in Norway was elected Vice President of the ESU. She has previously been active in The National Union of Students in Norway, NSO, and the students’ union in Bergen. The Spaniard Fernando Migeul Galán Palomares was re-elected as vice-chairman.

Earlier this spring, Lundagård held a longer interview with Elisabeth Gehrke in Brussels. Read the interview by clicking here.
