For the tenth year in a row the tenants of AF Bostäder are subjected to rent increase. The rents for 2014 are raised with an average of 2,1 percent. Those living in family apartments and the kitchenette rooms at Ulrikedal suffer the greatest rent increase.
Henrik Krantz at AF Bostäder explains the increased rent by stating that they are going to make extensive renovations on their property. “During 2014 we will continue to renovate the facades at Vildanden and finish the reconstruction of our kitchenette rooms. We are also going renovate the windows at Delphi and rebuild the balconies at Ulrikesdal.
AF Bostäder and The Swedish Union of Tenants (Hyresgästföreningen) agreed on the small rent increase in order to have a long-term maintenance. The rest of the raise is meant to cover the general increasing expenses. “We have increasing expenses for things such as staff. We wanted a higher raise of the rent to cover that but at the same time we are a foundation whose task is to supply cheap living arrangements for the students”, says Henrik Krantz.
Do you think that your tenants think they get value for their money with the rent increase?
“I hope so. We have a good reputation when it comes to making our customers satisfied and if you compare us to other student housing companies we have the cheapest rents in the country”, says Henrik Kratz.
Satisfied with the increase
Even Robin Heed the students’ housing representative at AF Bostäder is satisfied with the increase. “We think it’s a good deal. All the increases will benefit the students in the end, and we should not forget the inflation neither the tax increase”. Robin Heed is convinced that the students will get the value for their money. “A lot of things will be done during 2014. We also have to remember that it’s not about hundreds of kronors in increases every month.
But for somebody with a study grant a hundred kronors can be a lot of money?
“Yes of course. I’m not sure what to say about that. But I think the students understand that it will benefit them in the end”.
Are you as happy with the increase of rent?
