Helsingborg students are a group often forgotten, in spite of approximately 10% of the university students attend Campus Helsingborg. Concerning the Studentlund requirement for the carnival, they now are at risk of being even more excluded.
The students at Campus Helsingborg are additionally affected by the Studentlund requirement. Many of these students are affiliated with the Social Student Union’s Helsingborg section, Agora, which is the only place they pay for the student union membership. Even if their student cards are marked with the Studentlund logo, they don’t have full Studentlund membership. Students and workers in Helsingborg are not as interested in joining a nation in Lund.
Sebastian Kull, Agora president, says it is important to shed light on the fact that the Helsingborg section is excluded as a result of the Studentlund membership requirement.
“We are included in the sense that the Social Student Union has begun considering the carnival train, and if they have any ideas of a contribution. But you have to be an AF member, so it might be problematic for the Helsingborg members,” says Sebastian Kull and continues:
“A little more than 4,000 of Lund University students attend Campus, but the fact that many of them can’t benefit from AF or a nation membership makes them excluded from the new rules implemented by Karnevalsorganet.
Four memberships required
At the same time, Helsingborg’s largest student union, Stampus, expresses a will to encourage their members to participating in Lundakarnevalen, by joining the carnival train for instance. It gets problematic since their members are completely excluded from the union-Studentlund collaboration.
“For our members, it will mean an additional expense to the volunteer work, which is admirable in itself. It gets problematic if you have to choose between being a member of Stampus or Studentlund,” says Hampus Fernström, Stampus president.
“It’s a shame that four memberships are required, which is the case with student union, nation, AF, and Stampus. At the same time, I encourage all Lund-Helsingborg collaborations.”
Are your members aware of the requirement of all these memberships?
“I don’t think people are of aware of it right now. It’ll come as a surprise. The carnival is a cool event, and at the same time it might be hard to require from the members that they subscribe to additional memberships,” says Hampus Fernström.
