With a year of dropping member numbers behind it, Sydskånska nation gives its best effort in order to create an image of itself as the leading musical nation in Lund. They are now offering rehearsal halls to the members.

During the planning stages of the nation’s festival, which was realized earlier this fall, Sydskånska initiated contact with Studiefrämjandet in Lund.

– We had members that wanted to rehearse and Studiefrämjandet had rehearsal halls, so there wasn’t much to talk about, says Gustaf Stand, curator at Sydskånska nation.

As of last week, the nation subscribes to three sessions per week in Studiefrämjandet’s halls by the Sockerbruket area in central Lund. So far you can only make a reservation through contact with the curators.

– We’re working on a large update for the homepage and we hope to get a system for making reservations for the rehearsal halls up by then, he says.

Focus on the activities

The drive is a first step in the nation’s attempt to strengthen its image as a musical nation. During the bygone academic year, the nation lost 12 percent of its members. But this does not worry Gustaf Strand.

– I choose to focus on our activities, he says and tells us that there is a great deal of things going on behind the scenes, without wanting to go into specifics.

What do you think is behind the declining number of members?

– Our marketing has not been optimal. We haven’t used our communication channels to their full potential. It is only now that we are starting to get our Facebook page straight. The homepage also needs improving, he says.

Clear goal

A few weeks ago, the nation set up an internal workshop in order to plan how the nation’s activities should develop in the future.

– The goal is to become Lund’s foremost musical nation. It should be easy for our members to realize their ideas and to affect the organization, says Gustaf Strand.
