While the human inhabitants of Lund are growing more numerous, Malmö’s reptilian population is looking to take an unexpected hit. This and more in Lundagård’s weekly summary of local news.

Lund In a population census by the Tax Agency last week, Lund residents came in at 114 003, which is an all-time high. The Lund populace has been growing steadily since reaching 100 000 inhabitants in 2002, and official forecasts are putting 2017 as the year when the population will hit 120 000.

Green Party proposes to liven up Lund’s squares

Lund An ice skating rink, public chess boards and art installations doubling as playgrounds for children were some of the suggestions put forward by the Swedish Green Party (Miljöpartiet) this Monday, in a bid to enrich the squares of Lund. Both Mårtenstorget and Stortorget would see cultural additions if the proposal were to go through.

Large crocodile found in Malmö greenhouse

Malmö Police officers happened upon a 2 meter long Nile crocodile during a routine search of a greenhouse in suburban Malmö this Friday. The owner of the animal was arrested at the same time on grounds of stolen goods peddling, and according to his wife the crocodile has been present on the premises for at least two years. The reptile has been taken in by the authorities, and the search is on for an appropriate new home, likely one outside Malmö.

82-year-old man found guilty of bludgeoning police officer

Landskrona Following the unwillingness of the police to assist in silencing vibrations in the walls, allegedly caused by organized, foreign crime, an 82-year-old man hit a police officer over the head with a crutch last May. The man has now been found guilty of assaulting the police officer, as the court is siding with the policeman’s account of the events.
