The students that harassed their fellow students at Lunds tekniska högskola will not receive disciplinary action. In an interview with the magazine Ingenjören, Annika Mårtensson, pro-vice-chancellor at LTH, says that no disciplinary action is of current interest.

In June, the Metro newspaper revealed that a group of roughly ten male students had harassed, threatened and stalked female students at, among others, 2012’s hazing. The bullying students study electronics and the group was called LUG, which allegedly stands for Lund’s Young Gentlemen. But no disciplinary action is of interest currently.

“It won’t go to the disciplinary board right now. If more things happen then maybe it will, but not at present,” says Annika Mårtensson, pro-vice-chancellor at LTH, to the magazine Ingenjören.

Hazing anxiety

Teknologkåren know full well which students that constituted the group. Before the autumn’s hazing there was some concern among the students that the group would sabotage the initiations.

“I’ve spoken to the hazing general and so far everything has gone according to plan regarding the hazing,” says Björn Hansson, chairman at Teknologkåren.

What do you think about there being no disciplinary action?

“Our role is not to judge the students, but rather to almost always support all students. That is why we support LTH’s decision.”

How do you prevent it from happening again?

“We’re always working on preventing these things and we’re working on equal treatment and questions of values. For example, the section boards and all the student representatives of the hazings are given education in all these matters.”

Do you think that LTH has put enough effort into solving the problem?

“LTH has done a lot so far. There have been a number of discussions during the spring and steps have been taken. We have had the matter under supervision but the work around values is something that will continue perpetually,” says Björn Hansson.
