Lund’s biggest party of the year has now gone, but fret not: plenty of exciting activities are still to come! Jane Dinh guides you through this week.
Just because Valborg is over does not mean that the fun has ended too. This week you can find a variety of activities, including student traditions, sports, concerts, art exhibitions, educational activities to attend all around Lund and Malmö. Whether you are more of a party-goer, or instead someone looking for cultural events , there is something for everyone this week!
Want to experience more of Lund’s unique student party traditions? Lund’s infamous party corridors at Parentesen will be hosting their biggest annual tradition this week: Brännboll. The tournament starts tomorrow on Monday, continuing until May 18. More information about this can be found here. For those unfamiliar with Brännboll, it is similar to baseball. It is also a tradition in Parentesen that has been continuing for the last 30 years, where all of Parentesen’s corridors battle against each other. Competition is fierce, as all corridors try their best to avoid being losing team that cleans up all the trash left over from the tournament and parties. Be sure to check out one of these games to witness the enthusiastic crowds, their energy is contagious!
Are you open to experience activities at a more alternative and socialist nation? Check out the annual Culture Week at Smålands Nation. Here you can experience lectures, concerts, and cool clubs! There is something going on for everyday of the week, and these activities are all open to everyone, regardless of age and whether or not you have a nation card. If you are looking for more variety and culture be sure to visit a photo exhibition called Tales of a City by Shiho Kito. In this exhibition you can see Kito’s exploration in Ahmedebad, India through her photos of its night-life, as well as portraits. This exhibition will be shown in Malmö at Galleri Vasli Souza in Gustav Adolfs Torg 10B until June 16.
Looking for a good reason to head to Malmö? From May 6-8, Malmö Högskola will be hosting its International Week, which includes lectures from eminent speakers, seminars, films, and debates about a variety of global issues. It’s a great way to learn about what’s going on in other parts of the world! Check out the full schedule here.
Want to learn more about how trash is handled both globally and in Lund? On May 7 at 18:30, Trashed, a documentary about the global garbage problem, will be shown at Ekologihuset. Sofia Güll from Sysav will also be a guest speaker to discuss how Skåne is dealing with waste. More information about this screening can be found on its facebook event.
Interested in learning how and why to grow your own food? Planet Lund will be hosting its Urban Gardening days, which are events and workshops organized by and for students to educate about the benefits of urban farming. Cost is free. The last day to sign up is May 7 for the workshops taking place on May 24, so hurry and sign up at planetlund.se !
