Stormy debate around the Social Democrats

Sweden During the past two weeks there has been a stormy debate going on about Omar Mustafa, who was elected for the party’s governing board. As a chairman for the Islamic Association (Islamiska förbundet) Omar Mustafa had, according to the newspaper expo, invited anti-Semitic speakers. The article lounged a discussion concerning Omar Mustafa’s suitability on the governing board. Even though trying to disassociate himself and the Islamic Association from any anti-Semitic opinions the damage was already made and Omar Mustafa was forced to resign just a few days after the election.

Round one in the battle of rock millions

Lund The dispute between The Cardigans and The Hives has been settled for now since The Hives was convicted to pay over 23 million SEK to Cardigans. Cardigans claim that Hives borrowed the money from them through their common company Tambourine Studios while Hives claim that they did not. Hives are planning to appeal against the conviction. This case is just the first in the affair concerning artists such as The Ark and Timbuktu.

Princess Estelle did no manage to raise the numbers

Gothenburg A recent poll among the Swedish people show that they still have a low confidence towards the royal family. The royal family might have hoped that their new addition, princess Estelle, would help raising the numbers. But according to the latest poll there is no effect of that to be seen. Swedish people’s confidence towards 21 different institutions puts medical service at the top followed by the institutions for higher education. The royal family stays at the bottom.

Children robbed in Limhamn

Malmö Around 7 p.m. on Tuesday night two boys where robbed of the money they had earned selling May flowers (majblommor) in the district of Limhamn. May flowers are pins sold every spring by children in aid for poor children in Sweden. The boys had just finished for the day and was on their way home when two older boys approached them claiming that they wanted to buy flowers but instead they snatched the money and ran away. The police was called but was unable to catch the perpetrators.

More people to reach a 100 years

Sweden An increasing number of people are predicted to become over a hundred years old in the future, according to Statistics Sweden (Statitstiska centralbyrån). However, society is not ready for that change says professor emeritus Eva Jeppsson Grassman. One adjustment made has been to increase the age of retirement with a pension. But at the same time there has been a higher demand for grownup children to take care of their parents. Eva Jeppsson Grassman says that, to take care of your parents at the same time as you’re expected to work up until a higher age doesn’t combine.
