After digging and finding an old script, which hadn’t been used since 1960, Lundaspexarna will embark on a voyage of discovery with Columbus.
In the main hall of AF-borgen the spex complex is in full progress. The smell of wood in construction and the sound of thick paint hitting the décor of the ornamented cloths fill the room with bustling life.
Even behind the scene the activity is at its highest in the well-lit make-up room with mirrors running hot for at least two more weeks. It’s time for the fourth round of Columbus, Lundaspexet, which haven’t been dusted off since 1960.
“The point of a reproduction is to try to include a trace of originality, which the story has overall, but at the same time modernize it with new music and new jokes,” says director Niklas Jönsson.
Similar to the latest round this year’s spex will use the original performance from 1946 as a springboard. But with a updated language, large parts of the script have also passed through the make-up room.
“We wanted to do something that was old and the last spex poster made us curious, so we dug up an old script and thought that there was at least one interesting story, even if the language in the original version was very high-flown” says Niklas Jönsson.
But those who expect a traditional spex premiere on the 30 November needs to think again. Due to booking mistakes the ensemble will enter the stage on the 23rd but with as many sails set.
