It’s time to put those minutes in between canceled trains to use. A recently started collaboration gives you, who are surfing on the Eduroam-network, access to thousands of new Wi-Fi zones across Sweden.
“The technology is already here”, says Börje Josefsson, acting as Director at Sunet.
Sunet is a computer network that interconnects the universities of Sweden, and through the incorporation with the network operator the Cloud, students can now access 45 000 new Wi-Fi zones in Sweden for free.
The objective of the collaboration is to provide the students and the staff with Wi-Fi access beyond the walls of the university.
Up to this point, Eduroam has only been accessible when you have been in the actual departments who are a part of this collaboration.
“What we now offer the students and university staff from all the departments is the possibility to connect to Eduroam, without charge, in more areas thanks to the expanded number of Wi-Fi zones as an outcome of the new collaboration, says Börje Josefsson.
The idea is to be able to provide Wi-Fi access in various travel centers such as train stations and airports.
In addition to these, Börje Josefsson also mentions coffee shops and restaurants.
What will these changes be like in reality for those who are long since used to connect to Eduroam?
“The old and previously configured log-ins still apply and neither this user-friendly system or the connection speed will be affected”, says Börje Josefsson.
“The change is the expanded accessibility.” The plan is to have the entire country incorporated before the end of October but the technology is already operating in Lund.
