The first months of the year tend to be too dark, grey, and cold. Not exactly the most pleasurable time to start a semester. Here is Lundagård’s best tips on what to do in a wintry Skåne!
Enjoy art and shows
If you are not used to attending shows or exhibitions, it is easy to forget that Skåne offers a wide variety in this field. Go to ticnet.se or the websites of the different municipalities to see what is on the agenda right now.
Two events in February:
- Mentalist Henrik Fexeus performed at Lund’s city theatre Thursday-Saturday, with a show that turned how we see memories and reality upside down.
- Photographer Johan Bävman’s exhibition “Swedish dads” has had a lot of success, an exhibition in which he has documented the relatively Swedish phenomenon of stay-at-home dads. This can be seen Malmö Museer.
Chill out in a café
Perhaps the most classic pastime in the darker half of the year. But sometimes, it might be hard finding a new place; “taking the easy way out” is exactly that – easy – and stopping at one of the corporate café franchises. Instead, go to Ebbas fik, inspired by the 1950s, in central Helsingborg. There, you can enjoy home-made, oversized cookies, and put a nickel in the jukebox.
Other cosy cafés include Lilla Kafferosteriet in Malmö and Ebbas Skafferi in Lund.
Go out ice-skating on thin ice
Skating is something not that well documented as a spontaneous outing in Skåne, a region almost devoid of snow. You shouldn’t hold your breath if you are waiting for the sea to freeze over. Instead, listen to this! Weather permitting, you could go ice-skating on the roof of Emporia in Malmö. It is also possible to rent a pair of ice-skates there. In Folkets park in Malmö, there is also an area for ice-skating, and in Lund, there is an ice-skating hall. The upside of an ice-skating hall is that you can do it regardless of the weather.
Cold feet – good mood
Get your head under some cold water! In several places in Skåne, there are open-air baths, with everything that comes with it: saunas, sea, and a view. The cold water makes your body produce endorphins which make life seem a bit more wonderful. In some of these establishments, you can eat a nice meal and visit a spa, if you want to take a piece out of the big January-cheque from CSN.
Some of the open-air baths in Skåne:
- Bjärreds saltsjöbad
- Pålsjöbaden in Helsingborg
- Ribersborgs kallbadhus in Malmö
- Ystads saltsjöbad
Admire the landscapes
Snow-covered forests, sparkling fields, and the sea. Nature baffles, even in winter. Bring a thermos and some good company. On the other hand, why not go alone, to clear your head? Do you want a more adventurous outing, you could book a day of riding, experiencing nature from the back of a horse. At turridning.se, you can book outings, and ride in several places scattered around Söderåsen.
