A 46 year old employee at the University has received a sentence of one year and nine months in jail for setting repeated fires in the cellar of Matematikhuset. So Sydsvenskan writes.

Three cases of arson, but also trespassing of dwelling and assault and battery. A 46 year old employee repeatedly committed violations of the law during August – both in and out of service.

At the end of August the woman was suspected of starting the fires in the cellar of Matematikhuset.

In a single occasion the woman committed arson at three separate locations – she, among other things, she lit  a food-laden trolley on fire right before the beginning of freshman celebration. The room was filled with inflammable material and there was close to 300 people in the house.

In connection with the fires, the rescue service and the police were alerted to the scene. In the interrogation that followed, the woman was singled out as the one responsible for the three fires despite  her denial.

Besides the accusations of arson, she has also been found guilty of trespassing of dwelling and assault and battery. This came after starting August by threatening her former husband, forcing herself into his home and then hitting his then partner, according to Sydsvenskan.

Now the district court has pronounced their verdict.

The woman’s August has resulted in her getting fired from the University after twelve years of employment, and a prison sentence from the district court for one year and nine months. In addition, she will pay 4109 Swedish kronor for the goods damaged in connection with the fires.
