Sweden is a big country with lots of exciting places to discover. Triin Juulik and Iris Lerke, two girls from Stockholm, have made it their mission to promote Sweden for young tourists by travelling around and sharing their experiences in videos.
The idea for the travel homepage and English-speaking video-blog about Sweden and its beautiful facets came up after Christmas last year. Triin Juulik (24) and Iris Lerke (28) were both taking part in a seminar in London, where video-blogging in the tourism sector was a central topic.
“Video-blogging is becoming more and more popular because videos can tell much more than a picture”, says the 24-year-old.
The two young women, who both currently live in Stoeckholm, are training to be “incoming travel agents” at Stockholm’s Travel Education Center. Their online project, which has been up and running since May 2015, has replaced a compulsory internship at a travel agency for their program. Triin explains that instead of “sitting behind a desk”, they both wanted to “enjoy life and video-blog at the same time to show things that you don’t find in travel guides” and that are geared towards a younger audience.
Enjoy Nature
During summer the two travel-agents-to-be went down south to visit “Gotland, the west coast, Helsingborg, and Mölle”, says Triin, who is originally from Estonia but has lived in Sweden for three years now. Her favorite trip so far has been to “Kolarbyn Ecolodge”, located two hours from Stockholm. With sauna, firewood but no electricity, you get to “feel the nature and feel yourself; it is a fun activity to do with friends and we can totally recommend it”, she ensures.
Their “So Swedish”-project is on a short hiatus right now due to construction on the website but the two Stockholm-based girls already have lots of interesting topics lined up, waiting to get published. In the future, they want to make the project even bigger and more professional and focus more on their young, often budget-sensitive target audience: Provide more ideas for “what young people can do in Sweden, give transportation tips or advice for places to go out”, as Triin puts it. Discovering other big cities in Sweden is also on the to-do list for Iris and Triin, but in the upcoming winter months they also want to portray cold, snowy Norrland, in the north of Sweden.
Careful planning of the trips is important because they are very time-intensive for the two full-time students. Moreover, their trips and videos need to be sponsored and approved by the various places they visit. “Usually we ask if we can do a video, and then get to stay for free because we promote them”, Triin explains.
