This summer Gerdahallen will rebuild one of its locker rooms into a gym.

The interest to exercise at Gerdahallen has increased exponentially over these last years and many visitors feel that there is a lack of space. Because of this, the training establishment will remake the damp locker room by Mellansalen into a gym.
“Today, we have a relatively limited amount of space for exercising with free weights and in this way, we can offer a larger area for exercising”, says Stefan Karlsson, acting CEO at Gerdahallen.
A lot of the visitors think that the locker rooms are crowded. What are your thoughts now that you are removing one of the locker rooms?
“We are aware of the critique and are looking into it. Some classes have been close to each other on the schedule, and by making changes there we might be able to move the classes further apart and spread out the number of visitors. This way, we might be able to alleviate crowding”, says Stefan Karlsson.

Gym for 20 people
The new gym will be 80 square meters big, and the renovation starts this summer and is expected to be finished just before the start of the autumn term.
“We hope that about twenty people will be able to exercise there at the same time. That’s a lot of people in one day and this will make the larger gym less crowded”, says Stefan Karlsson.

Success in the summer
During this winter Gerdahallen was renovated to be able to be open 24 hours per day – a successful investment according to Stefan Karlsson.
“So far, we are very pleased. We see many people exercising by the time we open and close. Even Saturday nights when we are closing early, people are staying to work out. We believe in a huge success this summer when the opening hours are shorter”, says Stefan Karlsson.
