A couple of weeks ago, Lundagård reported that all continuation courses in the unique subject Intelligence Analysis were to be discontinued due to financial reasons. But now it is clear that the courses will remain– thanks to money from an external financier.
On March 1st, Lundagård wrote about the University’s decision to cancel all continuation courses in Intelligence Analysis due to lack of money. The affected students were “stunned” and “disappointed” by the decision and have since then formed an opinion to keep the courses. Now it seems they will get their will through.
“Things have happened”
Tomas Bergström, the Head of Department at the Department of Political Science, states that a lack of resources was the reason the courses were cancelled, but that external funding now makes it possible to keep them.
“We are to receive externally paid teachers. Exactly from where I can’t disclose since not everything is finished, but it should be in a few weeks. We are so sure that we are announcing it now”, he says.
Starting next semester, a continuation or Bachelor level course in Intelligence Analysis will be offered each year. Intelligence Analysis can, once again, be a major in a Bachelor’s degree.
“We are very happy”
One student at the introduction course in Intelligence says that everyone in the class has not yet had time to meet after the Easter break, but those who the student has been in contact with have been positive about the announcement concerning the continuation course.
“Those I’ve talked to are very happy. And several alumni, who attended the introduction course a few years ago, now say that they have applied for the continuation course. Everyone thinks it is great that the decision was changed”, says the student, who wishes to be anonymous.
However, the student also says that there was some frustration over the fact that the courses were first cancelled and then reinstated.
“This recent announcement came now, in the middle of application and because the department clearly said no regarding keeping the courses, several students have already organised exchange studies or other things for next semester”, the student finishes.
