We are humans. All of us. But what does that really mean? “We are humans” is a freelance project, with which Lundagård journalist Eleonora Kleibel and photographer Hauke Steffen aim to point out the great cultural variety the entire body of Lund University has to offer.

It is a statement to contradict the growing discussion about heritage and religion. This statement is made through a series of interviews, which covers all sorts of associates with the University. But to start things of, here is their story:

We are humans. All of us. But what does that really mean? This question, amongst others, has motivated the makers of the campaign to get active.

Living in Europe, these past months have been dominated by an ongoing discussion about whether or not the continent is prepared to offer refuge to those coming without consequently loosing its integrity.

About whether or not prejudices are applicable. And about what might be the best way to deal with the severe crisis that started in the Middle East but has captivated the entire planet in the course of 2015.

One could almost fall to the impression, that certain human attributes like heritage, religion or appearance truly have an impact on the way people are able to thrive in a united community.

But is that really the case? Is it not so, that a certain level of integrity manages to overcome these differences?

“We are humans” aims to show, on which foundations human society can be build upon. It shows, that even in a group of people coming from the most diverse backgrounds, cohabitation is not only possible, but is even able to help every individual to evolve and prosper.

It is undeniably true that this world offers a broad variety of cultures. But at the end of the day, all that is left is the simple fact that we are human beings.

We may have different beliefs, but we share the same fate. We may have different languages, but emotions make everyone look alike. We are one kind, we are humans!

The first portrait will be published on Thursday, the 25th, and a new person will be introduced every week during the spring.
