For two days, 165 companies and organisations scoured the career fair Arkad for their future employees. Project Manager Anita Tran holds that the fair is good for the students, who get to see how coveted they are.
Both the Study Centre and Matteannexet at the Faculty of Engineering is crowded with people. Between five and seven thousand visitors are expected to Arkad, the career fair of the Student Union at LTH. The fair is meant to be a meeting ground for potential employers and students.
More exhibitions than ever
330 students from the Student Union at LTH are involved in this year’s edition of the fair, which will be the 39th overall. But this year is different – this year, there are more companies and organisations on site than ever before.
”We usually have around 150 exhibitions. This year, we have 165, which is a record and something that we are very proud of”, says Anita Tran, project manager at Arkad.

Among the thousands of visitors are not only students from LTH, but also economists, systems scientists and natural scientists. Patrik Gustafsson is in his third year at the Fire Protection Engineer Programme and closing in on finishing his education. That is why he is looking into what his opportunities are once he gets his degree.
”You go around, asking what companies orientate towards fire safety, but it is also interesting to see how things are in general. And of course it’s nice with all the free stuff”, Patrik Gustafsson says.
”I need a job”
All around, the tables are brimming with bowls of candy, free pens, pads and bicycle lamps. Before, Axel Ekman, who is in his fifth year at Engineering Nanoscience, came here for the free stuff. Now that he is getting close to his degree, things are getting more serious.
”I have been here every year since I started my studies, mostly to check it out. But now, I need a job. Preferably at this very moment”, Axel Ekman says.
One of the companies here is Skanska. Sofie Feuk works with the company’s employer branding, and considers the fair a good opportunity for companies to reach students and create collaborations.
”We have met a lot of competent students and hope to receive many applications for exam jobs and internships”, Sofie Feuk says.

Need the courage to fulfil their dreams
The theme of the year is ”Becoming a Better You” and is based on increasing students’ self-esteem for the labour market. Anita Tran also believes that a lot of students can fulfil their dreams, if they only have the courage.
”Just to see these companies, that are here to meet us students, to see the demand, is really huge. I hope that all students can take that with them, how coveted we are, how easy it is to find a job if you only take the step”, Anita Tran says.
