The spookiest night of the year is coming up and you don’t know how and where to celebrate it? Here is this year’s guide to a scary Halloween in Lund.

The name Halloween originally means ‘hallowed evening’ and describes the evening before the Christian All Hallow’s Day; the day on which the dead and saints are remembered. It is still unclear where the roots of Halloween lie: Christian, Celtic and pagan influences are all mentioned in connection with the holiday.

The British Isles are the point of origin for the whole event but the US and Canada had the biggest impact on the development of Halloween. Trick-or-treating, jack-o’-lanterns and spooky parties are now a central part of this fall favorite holiday.

What to Wear?
Bloodthirsty vampires, ghosts, witches, fairies, princesses and beauty queens – All is possible for costume-lovers on Halloween. There are several stores in Lund that have a selection of spooky articles. If you have a small budget, go check out T.G.R. and H&M. They sell lots of small accessories that you can use to vamp up your regular outfit.

If you are looking for face paint, artificial blood or want to spend a little more on your costume, go to Butterick’s at Östra Mårtensgatan 14A or visit Klädkammaren in the basement of AF-borgen between 3.15pm and 5.30pm on Friday to loan a costume for SEK 150.

Hot Tip?
One of the city busses, line 4 (Gunnesbo – Norra Fäladen) will be decorated in “Halloween”-style. It will be driving its usual route from Friday 4pm until 0.30am and the whole day Saturday. If you want to have a themed ride to the party of your choice, then this is your chance! The fare is regular and as usual paid with your jojo-card or the smartphone app.

Where to Go?
There are a ton of Halloween themed parties going on at the nations on both Friday and Saturday. Lunds nation, for example, promises a decorated club and secret surprises in their “Halloweenpenthouse”-club. Here’s an overview of the fun and scary things that are happening this weekend:
