A new Danish website is going to compile Lund’s student life. The website Hivebeat was launched last week and has already received much support.

The purpose of Hivebeat is to gather different universities’ student organisations and events in one place. The website has not existed in Sweden before, but has had much success in Denmark. Jonas Bøgh Larsen founded the website together with a colleague after having studied marketing at Aarhus University.

“We’ve already got it going in Denmark with over 10,000 users. We cover the four largest universities in Denmark and more than thirty upper secondary schools”, Jonas Bøgh Larsen says.

Nations and organisations are tied in

The students become members of the website in order to see what events are being arranged by Lund University. The idea is that all student organisations, institutions, and nations affiliated with Lund University should be included so that the user gets a good coverage and can keep track of everything at the same time.

“Lund University is the first foreign university that Hivebeat reaches. It will also be launched at Stockholm University in a couple of weeks, and our ambition is to reach many more countries”, Jonas Bøgh Larsen says.

Looking for student employees

So far, Jonas Bøgh Larsen and his colleague Emil Hagbarth Rasmussen are the only people working with Hivebeat, but they are now looking for four Swedish students to help spread the word and make other students become members of the website.

“It’s free of charge to become a member, for both students and student organisations. We make profit from getting a cut out of the tickets sold to different student events through Hivebeat”, Jonas Bøgh Larsen says.

Hallands Nation is not convinced

However, the idea has not catered to everyone’s taste. Hallands Nation is one out of the handful of nations that have been in contact with Hivebeat, and they are on their list of student organisations in Lund. Curator Martin Larrosa is not convinced about Hivebeat’s influential power.

“We’ve had little contact with them so far. Off-the-cuff, I don’t see any need for this kind of service. Studentlund’s website and app already cover most of it if you ask me”, he says.
