Lund’s University will be closed on Monday October 12th after an anonymous threat was posted on a social media platform. So the University writes on its website on Sunday night.
Earlier on Sunday, an anonymous blogger posted a message on social “scrapbook” website www.jodel.se with the following content: “Some of you are okay. Don’t go to the University tomorrow if you are in Lund. Look at the news tomorrow morning. Bye for now jodlare”.
Many students responded to the post and expressed their concern about it.
During the afternoon, the threat was reported to the police, which directly started to determine how serious the message should be taken. “We take this with the utmost seriousness. We are working fully on all fronts,” internal police officer Markus Ingemarsson said to newspaper Sydsvenskan.
Late on Sunday night, the University’s security chef and the University Board had an emergency meeting about the situation. “The first thing we do, in accordance with the university’s guidelines concerning crisis management, is to determine whether this is a crisis and if so, what kind of crisis. Then we will inform the University Board, which has the ultimate responsibility and then the necessary decisions should be taken,” LU’s security chef Per Gustafson said prior to this meeting.
Around midnight, a message was posted on the University website saying that the university would be closed “for all students and staff at all campuses”. In the Swedish text, students are also admonished “to stay at home”. The University will come with further information on its webpages during the course of Monday and from 8 AM onwards, the university can be reached at 046 – 222 07 00 for questions.
