Have you ever dreamt of taking a step through the screen into your favorite series? Hallands Nation‘s new club venture Genom Rutan (Through the Screen) will offer students this opportunity with four TV-shows at four club nights this fall.
The first night is Breaking Bad-themed. It is a show about a high school teacher who has received a cancer diagnosis and decides to earn some extra money by producing and selling methamphetamine. In the entrance hall of Hallands Nation guests will be facing the car wash where Walter White works.
“We will also construct the fast food restaurant Los Pollos Hermanos. It will serve fried chicken and corn, and I’m picturing the same kind of sterile light as there is at fast food restaurants” Martin Larrosa says, curator at Hallands Nation.
At the cocktail bar the drinks will be made with blue food coloring and a lot of crushed ice to imitate the methamphetamine process. In the shot bar the club will be visited by a shot professional.
“The staff will be wearing hazmat suits like they have in the show when they produce methamphetamine in the lab. We want to play on the chemical reaction there is when making a cocktail” he says.
There is no dress code for a Breaking Bad-outfit even though they want to urge and encourage guests to dress up. Martin Larrosa is also clear with the fact that they do not want to be perceived as romanticizing drugs.
“We do not endorse drugs and are a part of Krogar mot knark (Restaurants against drugs). We want to focus on the experience in this club, not the drugs.”
The next TV-show to be experienced is Mad Men, although the last two have not been decided upon yet. The club venture Genom Rutan is primarily focused on those looking for an experience when they go dancing.
But might not the TV-shows mentioned so far be regarded as somewhat gender stereotypical and emphasizing the masculine angle?
“We do not want only masculine series, and have plans to balance it. Maybe that Orange is the New Black would work. Purely visual it could be fun with the orange overalls ” Martin Larrosa says.
The Breaking Bad-fan will enter the 25th September in their calendar. But you do not necessarily have to be a fan of that show, or any shows at all, to appreciate Genom Rutan. The focus seems to be on creating an atmosphere, even if the recognition factor probably enhances the experience.
