Vision is that thin line of difference between success and failure, says columnist Saahil Waslekar.

A teardrop. Have you ever seen within a teardrop? This is not a reference to the twelve minerals which form a teardrop, instead a focus on the structures from within. If you were to look at your teardrop whether in times of happiness, sadness, hope, grief or even onion tears, you would notice the presence of island structures, seashore patterns, abstract art and even blue prints to a master plan. Most definitely, such experience is only possible through microscopic aid, though, the ability to imbibe such a quality will define if we see or simply look.

The ability is, to see deep and beyond the obvious. There are many instances in everyday student life where we are presented with challenges which can very well be seen as opportunities. These include, group work, an opportunity to make long lasting relationships, student clubs, an opportunity to explore your beliefs, learning Swedish, an opportunity to launch your career and misunderstandings, an opportunity to communicate your thoughts. One such overarching advantage of seeing positive in ever challenge, is the ability to see both sides of the coin. This is one recipe towards having a vision.

It is always a privilege to learn a new language. In the case of learning Swedish, there are two likely outcomes. The first, as international students we practice the language with each other, make friends and include a new language to our existing language palate. The second, the ability to use the language in order to reach greater heights. This is not necessarily healthy. The process of learning a language is best viewed as an art and not a skill. Although having this skill can open doors towards a sustainable career. There is nothing wrong with that. There are other more convoluted interrelations. The time gap between the process and outcome might deter us from our goals.

As students of Lund University, all of us have aspirations. It is most beneficial for us that we have a vision even before we have completed our academic journey. An easy way to do this is, to – Pre Plan, Pick and Pursue. This includes, planning beforehand the direction we wish for ourselves, picking the elements crucial for the journey and then simply pursuing forward.

For, even ‘uncertainty’ would be grateful if it remained as a piece in the puzzle of ‘vision’.
