Tents are in flames in the Independence Square, Maidan, in Kiev.

“The picture shows the importance of being in the right spot at the right time.

A good picture is not only about the quick fingers of the photographer or the many pixels of the camera,” Daniel Kindstrand says.

“It feels fantastic to be on the wall of Lundagård for a while. This is the first time I win Picture of the Year. In the future, I will win again, but in new places.”

In February, he moved to Helsingfors to obtain his practical experience at Hufvudstadsbladet, working with reporting from foreign countries, among other things. The fact that he chose that particular newspaper is because of Daniel Kindstrand’s keen interest in reporting from foreign countries.

“They have their own foreign correspondents, in contrast to many smaller Swedish newspapers that copy TT’s texts word for word. Finland will be chilly, but it feels nice to be working at a newspaper for an extended period of time.”

All entries in the competition have been on display in Café Athen in AFborgen.
