Football, floorball, and volleyball. Three different sports – but one superior Nation. In the competition “The Battle of the Nations” that took place Saturday last, Helsingkrona Nation showed everyone which Nation was superior, with respect to sports.

The Battle of the Nations took place in Victoriahallen last Saturday. Eight Nations and one Nation-cooperation went head to head in football, floorball, and volleyball, to determine which Nation in Lund’s student life is the best when it comes to sports. The teams were divided into two groups, faced each other in all three sports, and each team’s points were subsequently added. And there was no question about it. Helsingkrona Nation was undefeated throughout its eleven matches and only lost points in a draw against Lunds Nation.

More people than ever partook
Almost all Nations took part in the tournament, and the influx was better than ever before.

The Sports College pulled the strings, and the chairperson, Torbjörn Andersson, is pleased with the outcome.
“The tournament was excellent. The atmosphere between the Nations was very good, and it was a nice tournament to be in charge of. We are there to have fun and promote sports,” he says.

Wants to become bigger
The Battle of the Nations has been organised for a few years, but has, in spite of this, never been anything of a best-seller among the students in Lund. This past weekend, things were better than before, but there is still room for improvement.

“In the sports centre, there were about 200 people. That is quite a few, but it is not the level we want,” Torbjörn Andersson says and explains how they should reach out to more people;

“We want people to be able to enjoy the event. For next year, we are planning to expand the tournament and make it even bigger than today – with both group stages and play-offs. We want to arrange other activities around the tournament: Audiences’ awards, food, and entertainment. We want the tournament to become hyped,” he says.

The second- and third place winners, Östgöta Nation and Västgöra Nation ended on the same scores, but ÖG snatched the second place thanks to the results they got in matches against VG.
