With a pair of nail scissors, a piece of gift-wrap string, and a ‘doll’s house,’ AF Bostäder’s new student flats, BoKompakt in Kämnärsrätten, were inaugurated. This Monday, students will move into the 22 recently built flats.

After about three years of negotiations with courts, architect’s offices, student collaboration, and construction companies, BoKompakt is now ready for people to move in.
The minimal student lodgings, which have received a respite from the demands of accessibility, were inaugurated by the managing director of AF Bostäder, Henrik Krantz cutting a gift-wrap string with a pair of nail scissors.
“I want to thank the board of AF Bostäder for having the courage to go through with this unique project,” Henrik Krantz says.
“This is the coolest thing AF Bostäder has ever built.”
Have to be convinced
Ida Johansson, a medical student, and Petter Herzog, studying technical nano-science, are two of those who will move to BoKompakt.
“It is hard finding a place to live in Lund, and this sounded like an interesting project to try out,” Petter Herzog says.

Have the two of you practiced compact-living?
“Everything in the flat is adjusted to the available space. In a regular student room, there is a lot of unused space, which is made more use of in these flats. I think it will work out,” Petter Herzog says.
“I also think it will work out. People in general do not really believe that this will work, so I will have to convince them. It feels as if the space is bigger than ten square-metres,” Ida Johansson says.
Green colour
There is also a reason behind the blazing green colour with which the new flats are painted.
“This is one of the most grey and boring living areas in all of Lund, especially today, when it is cloudy. This colour animates,” the architect, Pontus Åqvist says.
“Furthermore, it is very brave of AF Bostäder to undertake a project such as this one, which has a lot of thought behind it in relation to sustainability and environment. Therefore, the green colour fits nicely.”

Applications for Danmhagen
AF Bostäder will also continue its other projects. Vegalyckan is in the process of being built, and at the turn of the year, the Flat Iron-inspired living space Dammhagen will be inaugurated. Within the next couple of days, the application-services for flats in Dammhagen will open.
“We will also continue to work on the project Torna-Tunavägen, but we have not gotten as far with that one as we have with the others,” Dag Oredsson, head of marketing at AF Bostäder, says.
