At the beginning of each semester in Lund, the accommodation war is launched. Some of you were lucky but some were not successful.

Unlucky
Gabriel Schmitt was maybe in the same situation as you. He is a French student from Lyon, studying at the Faculty of Engineering. He applied at the end of April for an apartment at the LU Accommodation website, two days after the application opening. On the 26th of May he was placed on the waiting list. Later, on August 8th, he received his definitive and negative answer by email that LU Accommodation couldn’t provide a accommodation in Lund for him.

He tried AF Bostäder, Lund’s largest student housing organization, but he never received a definitive answer.

When he arrived in Lund on Arrival Day, the 19th August, he reserved a hotel for one night. He never thought that it would so hard to find an accommodation. He stayed one week in the hotel before finding a good, reasonable and not too shabby apartment as some of Lund’s housing owners offer. This misadventure cost him 4470 SEK.

“I received an offer from LU Accommodation on the 17th of September for one room, but it was so expensive and so far away from the University! I found something better by myself but it took me a long time. Today, I live with six Swedish roommates. »

 Lucky
Matilda Gross is a British student in sociology from the University of York. She also applied at LU Accomodation for an apartment, just as Gabriel did.

However, she received a positive answer. She has been living in Klostergården since the 19th of August. “I had heard that accommodation was difficult to find, so I was glad I got an offer for some place from LU Accommodation, but it is expensive ».

Advices for finding an accommodation

  • LU Accommodation is a public and general organisation that is very practical for some people, but not really for others.
  • AF Bostäder is another organisation that randomly selects its students. Newcomers are at the front of the queue.
”There are roughly 2200 students applying every fall semester, fewer during the spring.” explained Pierre Andersson, head of company-student relations
  • Bopoolen is run by Lund University Student Union and helps students looking for housing in Lund.
  • Lundagård advises every newcomer for the spring semester to search accommodation on blocket.se or bopoolen.se before having an answer from LU Accommodation or AF Bostäder.
