Both the conviction and the debate surrounding it has had consequences in the student life in Helsingborg. Stampus has decided to cancel their partnership with Urban Bar.
Urban bar is part of Helsingborgskollektivet, a group running several of the largest pubs and night clubs in the city. Helsingborgskollektivet has a close cooperation with Stampus, the social meeting place for Helsingborg students. Members of Stampus are often given free admission and discounts to the night clubs. During Monday afternoon, Stampus was in a meeting with representatives from Urban Bar to discuss the recent situation. Now, both of the parties have mutually decided to cancel their cooperation.
”It is very serious when our members take offence from some of our partners. Many members have been in touch and want us to take a stand, which is why we have chosen this solution. One of our foundations is that no one should feel discriminated or left out by our decisions”, Hampus Fernström, Stampus’ president, says.
No reason to lock others out
The cancelled partnership is only between Stampus and Urban Bar. The partnership with the rest of Helsingborgskollektivet will not be cancelled.
”The only one convicted is Urban Bar, none of the others. We feel it would be rash to blame everyone the same. Our task is not to judge anyone, only to offer as good an environment as possible for our members”, Hampus Fernström says.
No more after releases
The cancelled partnership means that there will be no more Stampus activities such as after releases and bar rounds at Urban Bar.
”We won´t actively encourage our members to go there. If, however, Urban Bar continues with student discounts, that´s their choice. There are no hard feelings, but we will not have any Stampus’ partnership with them in the future”, Hampus Ferntröm says.
Fredrik Norling, joint owner of Urban Bar, is not worried about the cancelled partnership.
”If Stampus does not want us as their partner, that´s their decision. If they don’t want it, it doesn´t matter.”
Elin Hemréus is happy over the partnership being cancelled.
”It feels like the right step for the student life and equality”, she says.
