They were first in line for the Carnival

The line for the roll to Lundakarnevalen 2014 started on Saturday evening. A bunch of warm dressed students defied the cold weather, rain and biting wind in order to be the first carnivalists.

Around eight o’clock on Saturday evening about ten students from the union of natural science were the first ones in line. With blankets, layers of clothes and garden chairs they got ready for a long night in the carnival line – not until 12 o’clock the day after the registration of the carnivalists would open.

“We are here first and therefore we can go home first tomorrow, ” says Fredrik Ekwurtzel, who is deputy chief for one of the tent activities.

“I wouldn’t want to be in the number two spot” shouts another one of the queuers.

Suddenly a police car drives up to the queuing people.

“What is going on here?”

“We are queuing for Lundakarnevalen!

“Is it time now? Are you going to be here all night in this weather?”

“Sure”

“I wouldn’t have done it but have fun” says the police man and drives on”

Within half a stone’s throw from the carnival line, inside a considerably warmer Café Athen, the economy section is preparing their display case. All carnival sections have built their own display cases for marketing purposes and to get people interested during next day’s roll.

“We have been working on the display case since three o’clock this afternoon, it’s going to be amazing,” says Martin Strömland, deputy chief of the economy section.

“But first we have to figure out what to do in order for it not to tilt. Maybe strings and a stone? He rhetorically asks at the same time as financial manager Joakim Winnerljung drills a screw into the wood.
