Will the new tramway in Lund be as good as everyone believe it would? Or will it cause more problems regarding the environment than it solves? Read more about it in Lundagard’s weekly summary of last weeks Swedish news.
The support for a law about consent increases
The political parties in Sweden, V, MP and the coalition cabinet except M wants sexual intercourse without one of the involved parties consent, to be punished as rape. The support is today even stronger as S too wants to investigate the issue once more. The Attorney General, Beatrice Ask (M), keeps the door open.
There are 6 000 reports on rape every year and only a couple of hundred lead to convictions. It is then easy to understand that the justice system doesn’t work the way it should.
A failure for the housing policy
During 2013 the construction of student housings started on a large scale. But only three per cent of these housings were regular tenancies. According to preliminary statistics around 560 housings were finalized last year in the Lund Township. The goal is to have around 1 000 residencies every year. The difference is too big. Around 440 housings less than calculated is a failure.
The major part of the started constructions are student housings, Lund’s Nation, 127 housings, and AF Bostäder 110 and 95 housings respectively.
The music in your mobile could be expensive
The question is whether it should cost money to store music in your mobile? This question will now be decided upon in court. The copyright organization Copyswede meets with Sony Mobile to negotiate an agreement. The case is about big money. Copyswede’s wants a compensation for the private copies that are stored in the mobile, but Sony Mobile refuses to pay. The problem is that the major manufacturers and importers not are in agreement with Copyswede how to interpret the law.
Grass is going to make the tramway an open solution
How will the tramway in Lund really look like? The idea is that the tramway, the tracks, will be surrounded by grass. This will be the case all the way from Allahelgonakyrkan to the new district, Brunnshög. Except for the stops, the passages with sidewalks and bikes, and in crossings with cars.
Apart from the green grass, which absorbs a lot of noise and will be 8 meters wide, a lot of trees will also be planted along the tramway. The responsible landscape architects will try to integrate the tramway in the existing urban space.
