Sandra Berg, a 21 year-old student living in Lund wins the 2nd prize in the photo competition. The contest encouraged students to tag pictures from Lund and as Sandra follows the Lund University Instagram, she decided to get involved.
Why did you take part in the competition?r
– I take a lot of pictures, some of the ones I included were taken in Stadsparken because I live just next to it. I take a lot walks there when I’m bored. I already had the pictures when the competition was on, I just had to tag them. They were not taken especially for the competition but for fun.
When did you came up with the idea of taking part in the contest?
– I think it was the last day. It was like ten hours left to the end of the competition so I tagged like five or six pictures mostly from August or Semptember as now it’s not that pretty anymore and last week they contacted me saying that I won.
Where did you take the lucky picture?
– I was just walking along the Stadsparken on my way home and I saw six or seven bikes standing in front of the sign saying: ‘no bicycle parking allowed’ (Cykelparkering forbjuden) and I actually took a big picture including all the bikes but you can see the sign as the Instagram picture is zoomed in.
Do you think your picture deserved the 2nd prize?
– I don’t know. I actually thought some of my other ones were better but I do agree with the motivation for the price- a humouristic point of view. Also, it represents how rebelious students can be and it’s kind of funny. I think here in Lund, there is such thing as a hierarchy indicating that ‘bikes go first’ and ‘bikes ignore the rules’. I am originally from Stockholm and there it doesn’t matter if you walk on the bicycle path because noone will run you over. Here, I don’t take a single step. Also, my picture is not a very ugly one, it is funny and it has pretty colours.
Do you think it’s beneficial for the students to take part in such competitions?
– I study math and I won a photo competition, so I think it’s a nice change. I like doing more creative stuff when I’m done studying. Also, the first three prizes were cool. They are going to print out postcards with the awarded pictures.
Thank you for the conversation. I’m looking forward to seeing your picture on the postard.
– Thank you. Me too and I will probably buy like ten of them.
