A group of Lund Entrepreneurship Masters are helping fight hunger this Friday with a Battle of the Bands event at Kulturkrogen. Games, good food, great music and an excellent cause. Sound like your sort of thing? Read on.
Lund Entrepreneurship Masters student Justina Brazinskaite is part of a group organizing a Battle of the Bands event to raise money for The Hunger Project, a charity working across Africa, South Asia and Latin America to end hunger, poverty and inequality.
All proceeds will go directly to The Hunger Project to help it pioneer and support sustainable, grassroots, entrepreneurial initiatives with women at their heart.
“Offering people, particularly women, the opportunity to take control of their own lives, step out of the domestic sphere and into the commercial one, and learn about sustainable solutions to issues that critically affect their lives is really important for so many reasons. It breaks down gender barriers, provides education and, if done properly, creates stronger communities and improves living conditions,” says Justina Brazinskaite.
“I know how hard it is to be a woman in business. But I also know how valuable it can be, for both the businesses and the women involved. And that’s why I think The Hunger Project is such a great concept.”
“We’ve been promoting at the Lunds Tekniska Högskola with the tagline “We will rock you LTH!” in the hope we can encourage plenty of students to come along and support the event. Each 1,000Kr we raise can empower 10 people this year, which is fantastic,” says Justina Brazinskaite.
Rock Against Hunger opens at 8pm with games, activities and a tasty buffet. The bands will be playing from 10pm, with 45 minute sets each to impress you, followed by DJs until 2am. For more information and to find out where to buy tickets, head to the event’s Facebook page.
