Students living in AF-housing will get free internet. The previously criticized Internet Service Provider Bredband2 will be a sole supplier of internet for AFB.

During the fall, students living in AFB housing will get free internet. 5886 of AFB’s student residences will get to surf freely at 1 gigabit per second. The contract with Bredband2 will last for five years, but AFB can cancel it if they are not pleased.

”We’ve had discussions with several suppliers for a long time. Bredband2 offers a speed, availability and service that we liked. We are very pleased with the decision,” says the housing ombudsman Robin Heed.

”Of course free internet should be covered by the rent. It should be a matter of course, just like how water comes out of the tap. It will also be cheaper since we can reduce the costs, both for us and for students,” Robin Heed says.

Previously criticized

About two years ago, Bredband2 got negative reactions for things like a sudden increase of costs. The year before that, there were problems with their bills, and their support was lacking. With the new contract, the residents will not be able to choose providers themselves. Despite this, AFB has chosen to sign a contract with the internet service provider.

”We’ve heard about these problems, but they’ve bettered themselves. They’ve improved the support, so we aren’t concerned about that,” Robin Heed says.

If a resident has problems, what should they do?

”Contact us directly or contact Bredband2, who can help,” he says.

AFB will provide more information later about how the change will be implemented, and what will happen with the residents’ old contracts.
