Why are the Swedes growing cannabis like never before? Apparently people don’t think it’s that dangerous. Read more about it in Lundagård’s weekly summary of Swedish news.

Young woman raped in the City Park

During the Valborg celebration this Tuesday, a young woman told the police that two men in the City Park had raped her. One of the men was arrested in the City Park shortly after the telling. The police found the second one later on and brought him in. The police have interrogated the two suspects.

16-year old boy was the cat killer

A young boy has confessed to the abusing and killing of nine cats in Gothenburg. The first killing started in November of 2011 and has been going on until May this year. The 16-year-old is under arrest and will undergo further examination on Friday afternoon.

“I met him briefly alone yesterday and attended the hearing. It’s hard to read him but he has worked in a fairly normal manner”, said the boy’s lawyer Göran Franzén.

Animal rights group publish pictures of mistreated turkey

Animal rights group Djurrättsalliansen has taken pictures in secret from within one of Ingelsta turkeys breeders on Österlen in Skåne. The pictures shows turkeys peck at each other and dead animals in piles.

“Of course I’m shocked to see this kind of pictures”, said Anders Rosenlund, Production Manager at Ingelsta Turkey.

More Cannabis in Sweden

Seizures of cannabis have increased sharply in recent years. Statistics from the National Crime Prevention Council shows that ten years ago it came in 219 police reports of cannabis plantations. Last year, 697 cases were notified. According to Jonas Wendel, the director of the youth section within drug enforcement in Stockholm, many young people thinks that cannabis is not that dangerous.

“Many people believe that it is not as harmful, and they speak quite openly that they have tried”, he says.
