More police and barriers at the lake. But also an additional 50,000 square meters for sitting. This year’s last April celebration looks bigger than ever.

In total 80 police will be on duty in Lund on April 30th. It is twice as much as last year.

”The police have upgraded the event as it has grown little by little every year”, says Ronny Johannessen, chairman at the Technical Services Committee in the City of Lund, that is in charge of the preparations of the celebration.

Also, new this year is that the area behind Mejeriet will be prepared for people to sit there.

”It would attract those who don’t want to sit in the middle of the whole thing”, says Ronny Johannessen.

Normally there are a lot of complaints on the littering of the park after the celebration. This year the City of Lund will hire professional cleaners instead of having non-profit associations be responsible for the reuse collection.

“It is too messy to have 15-17 year-olds walking around the park during the celebration.”

The celebration is estimated to cost the City of Lund 800 000 SEK, about as much as last year. Despite last year’s relative calm, Ronny Johannessen thinks that the security can be improved.

”From one point of view last year was calm, from another it wasn’t. People gathered around the animals which means that we will fence the lake more to protect the wildlife. Furthermore, the amount of alcohol is high. We plan for the worst scenario and hope for the best”, he says.
