Sweden’s Migration Minister enhances racial stereotypes


Sweden A few days ago Sweden’s Migration Minister, Tobias Billström,in an interview stated his approach to illegal immigrants residing in aSweden: “Sometimes we have the image that the paperless immigrant lives with a nice blond 50 – 60 years old Swedish lady who wants to help. But that is not the case. Most of them live with their fellow-countrymen who are not blond and blue-eyed”. Since the statement was made he has been criticised by several newspapers and even the Prime Minister. Billström has therefore publicly apologised for his statement.

Swedish defence league demonstration might cause riots

Malmö This Saturday at 2 pmThe Swedish Defence League (SDL), a far-right sister organisation of the English Defence League, will have a gathering at Stortorget in centre of Malmö. On their agenda they have an opposition against Islamism. Two years ago when the Swedish Democrats Youth Association demonstrated in Malmö it lead to violent riots and the police fear that the same thing will happen this time. A large amount of opposing demonstrators are expected.

Falafel No.1 convicted of tax evasion

Malmö The famous chain of restaurants Falafel No.1 have been convicted of cheating with their taxes. Last year a police action against tax evasion was performed on the restaurant chain. Representatives from the Swedish Tax Agency personally counted how many guests ordered at a specific restaurant and compared that to how many where actually registered at the counter. They found that every third costumer wasn’t registered. Now Falafel No.1 and its three joint-owners will have to pay almost 900 000 SEK to the Swedish Tax Agency.

The Hultsfred festival moves to the outskirts of Stockholm

Hultsfred/Sigtuna One of Sweden’s largest music festivals Hulstfred will move to Sigtuna outside Stockholm this year. The festival has been taking place since 1986 in the small town of Hultsfred and will when changing location change its name to Hultsfred Stockholm. According to Folkert Koopert, who took over the responsibility of the festival in 2011, the reason is purely economical. With the new festival location having a greater capacity and with its closeness to Arlanda Airport, Koopert hope to attract a larger amount of visitors.
