In hope of inspiring more female students to participate in public debating, the Lund Debate Society organised a one-day debate workshop titled “Voices of Women” over last weekend.
The workshop was part of a series of events organised around Lund last week by student associations and unions to mark the International Women’s Day, celebrated on March 8 every year.
Linnea Taylor from the “Step up” initiative and Emma Berginger, a young politician representing Green Party in the Lund City council, was invited to the speak about the importance of female representation in public life.
Following the lectures, the attendees also tested their skills in debating under the guidance from debate coach Lucinda David.
Speaking to Lundagard about her experience at the workshop, Ho Yenk Yu, 20, an exchange student from Hong Kong said that the training was very helpful and she has learnt a lot of new tips about debating.
“I definitely feel more confident about participating in future debates,” said Ho Yenk Yu.
The Debate Cafe’s is held on every Tuesday at Kulturanatomen at Biskopsgatan 7.
