Movie screenings, music, city tours, visual and performing arts. Jane Dinh guides you through this week’s activities.

Last week we had a shortly-lived Spring with warmer weather, sunshine and the start of blooming flowers. Although all these signs of Spring showed to give us false hope after the snow unexpectedly came back this morning, do not let the cold, unpredictable weather and snowy streets stop you from having a good time enjoying the events around Lund and Malmö this week!

Want to expose yourself to Swedish films but don’t speak the language? On Monday March 11 ESN will be presenting a movie screening at 19:30. At least two Swedish movies with English subtitles will be chosen, among them are “Skenbart – En film om tåg,” a comedy, and “Sebbe,” a drama. Address is Möllevångsvägen 6B, 22240, and an ESN card is required to attend.

Interested in learning and discussing more about social media? On March 12, Domkyrkoforum will be presenting a talk, ‘The Dark Side of Facebook’ starting from 19:15.

Got a taste for the arts?

This week you can get a dose of both visual and performing arts in Lund and Malmö. From now until March 24, the newly-opened Krets art gallery in Malmö will be showing a wooden sculptures exhibition by Dutch artist and illustrator Merjin Hos. 122 sculptures will be displayed, and this will be the first time Merjin Hos will have his art exhibited in Sweden.

The opening hours for this exhibition are: Wednesday 17-20, Friday 14-17, Saturday 12-15, and Sunday 12-15.

If you’ve also got an interest in opera, Kino cinema in Lund will be a live replay from the Metropolitan Opera of Richard Wagner’s musical masterpiece, “Parsifal” on Monday March 11 at 16:00.

Like to expose yourself to music from different cultures?

On Wednesday March 13 A Bhutanese band called Aa Yang will be playing swinging pop, meditative religious tributes, as well as reciting poetry at Mejeriet. This band will be the first Bhutanese music group to tour in Sweden, so don’t miss out on this opportunity! Doors open at 19:00 and the show starts at 20:00. Tickets cost 150 SEK.

Haven’t been to Malmö yet? A great way to both end the week and celebrate St. Patrick’s Day would be to join ESN’s tour of Malmö! The tour will start at 10:00, beginning with a morning at the sauna by the sea. Then at 13:00 the tour of the city as well as Malmö’s harbour area will follow, and then the night will end with a St. Patrick’s Day-themed bar crawl. Signs-ups must be done in advance here.

So, don´t let the snow keep you stay inside!
