Nations and student organisations in Lund are just restarting their activities as the new semester begins. But even if we are not yet flying at cruise speed, there are already some events that you should not miss this upcoming week, writes Vasco Costa.

Have you just arrived to Lund and still feel confused about all the nations, unions and different student organisations? Or have you already been studying here for some time but want to know everything that makes Lund a special student town better? Go to the Hälsningsgillet or Welcome Expo at the AF Borgen on Friday, the 25th, between 12:00 and 16:00. Last semester, this event had more than 150 participants and over 4000 visitors. You will also have the chance to get some free gifts!

If you are interested in the topic of feminism and gender issues, you will like to watch the documentary Wonder Women! The Untold Story of American Superheroines at Mejeriet on Tuesday, the 22nd. This is one of the Doc Lounge sessions that will run throughout the spring semester. By presenting examples from American popular culture, such as fictional cinema heroines, and from historical contexts, such as the World War II, Wonder Women discusses what happens when women take roles that are usually performed by men. The session starts at 20:00 and lasts approximately one hour. Tickets cost 60kr for students and can be bought after 19:00. The queue gets usually long, so be there on time to get a ticket! Another reason for going earlier is that just before the movie, a group of American folk music will act live on the stage and there is also the possibility of buying food and drinks at the bar.

Are you passionate about art and want to spend a calm, yet worthwhile afternoon after partying during the weekend? Then a visit to the Skissernas Museum on Sunday will be a good choice. This museum displays several pieces of Public Art from the Modern and Contemporary periods. People, Places, Things – Unearthing the Archives is the name of a currently temporary exhibition, where objects that have rarely been shown are now brought from the archives. Being a student, you don’t have to pay to visit the museum and there is a guided tour in English every Sunday at 14:00. This is good to get a better understanding of the meaning of the exhibitions and their objects, which may be otherwise a bit difficult if you do not have enough knowledge about art or do not understand Swedish, as the majority of the (few) descriptions at the museum are written in Swedish.
