19. Don’t mull things over at the Christmas table

So the time to bask in front of the fireplace is here. But which mulled wine brand goes best with Donald Duck’s Christmas Special? Lundagård’s Christmas panel went out with a final test.

Blossa mulled wine:

Frasse Levinsson, 20, European studies: This one’s really good.

Oskar Melander, 20, studying photography: I don’t think it would have been as good cold though.

Frasse: No, the temperature is important. On the other hand, doesn’t that hold for every sort of mulled wine? Who the hell enjoys drinking cold mulled wine? That’d be like drinking non-alcoholic Sofiero.

Marcus Svensson, 21, studying linguistics: Balanced sweetness, but maybe I could wish for a more lemonade-y flavor? I think this would go well with gingerbread cookies, but on its own it’s not sufficiently tasty to give me what I want, I would rather have a can of Coca-Cola.

Vinterglöd mulled wine:

Marcus: This freaking tastes like fox pee. Feels like kind of a pretentious mulled wine, a bit like expensive red wine. People pretend they’re down with what’s really good, but when you try the ten-year-vintage, it tastes like the sole of a shoe. The same goes for this.

Oskar: Hmm… I think there’s a hint of cardamom here. And who doesn’t like cardamom? At the same time it could have been a bit stronger.

Frasse: This one tastes like the typical mulled wine. If you were to imagine the exact taste of mulled wine it would be… Just like this. Which is both good and bad. A bit too predictable, I’d say.

Dufvenkrooks mulled wine:

Oskar: A touch of vanilla here? This is great, really great, top-shelf stuff. I’d go for this one.

Marcus: Yes! Well spiced, a little vanilla to it as Oskar says, but also chocolate and, like… Some sort of wild berries. This one definitely takes the crown.

Frasse: I think it tastes like crap. What the hell. The first mulled wine was strong and warm and went down easily. This one I have to fight to keep down. Doesn’t work for me.
