Lund Student Fashion Fair brought out the hidden talents of students for an evening of “coming out of the closet”

On Thursday evening, Café Athen at the AF-building was transformed as the catwalk took centre stage when members of the Boelspexarna modeled some of Lund’s many unknown  student designs on show.

Amongst the individual stalls, students ranging from economists to psychologists displayed and sold their creations.

The focus of the evening was punctuated by the fact that they are all students who have a passion for design, whatever they actually study.

“Its all about being able to come out of your closet” says organiser Niki Asimakidis, who studies english but also owns her own fashion label Yuki versus Black.

Many students shy away from reaching their potentials in relation to the fact that its such a difficult industry to break into, says Niki.

“But this fair will serve as a confidence booster for future endeavours.”

“We really hope this can become a recurring event and from here we aim to create a meeting place for students” says Human rights student Lisa Hansson, who also took part as an organiser.

The evening came together as a collaboration between a group of students and Akademiska föreningen, which offers grants for initiatives like this.

“That’s the best part of our organisation, having students who come to us and make events like this happen, we have a project fund from which anyone can apply to create their own events for whatever their passion” says Rachelle Lacharité from Akademiska föreningen.

The evenings focus was placed on expressing oneself through ones designs, something indicative of the creations on display, ranging from laptop sleeves to hand drawn sketches.

Many of the designers focused on maintaining a certain minimalism and looking at new sustainable ideas on a local and affordable level.

The theme being that behind the facade of student life, talent is most prevalent, something which couldn’t be mistaken from this evening.
