Joseph Alsberg has opened up a bookshop selling both new and second hand course books at Helsingborg Campus. The shop will help students to find cheap course books, and it can also give students part time jobs.
“It’s hard to get hold of course books”, says Joseph Alsberg to answer why he chose to set up the shop.
“And we help students find cheaper books, and this will assist me in my studies as well.”
As a retail trade student at the Service Management program, it’s quite possible that this is exactly what he will be working with in the future, Joseph’s collegue Ulrika Bergström interposes.
“Our aim is to have all material for all courses available”, says Joseph and continues:
“At the moment, we have something for every course, but we’re still missing some material.”
Making it less difficult to aquire course literature is not the only advantage of the shop.
Joseph also offers part time work to other students. Although the extra staff is salaried, Joseph concedes that he, at present, is working for free.
Things are looking good so far, according to Joseph, both in retrospect of their first three weeks of business and regarding the future.
“Some teachers responsible for distance courses have got in touch with us since their students struggle to find course literature, says Joseph and continues:
“These students are one further reason why this bookshop is needed; we want to be able to send them books in the future.”
Even tough Joseph thinks it’s a pity that some of the books are sold out, he consider it as a sign that there is need for more easily accessible course literature for the students.
