Wolf attack under investigation: 20 sheep attacked in Skåne
Up to 20 sheep were found dead on Wednesday morning this week in the Scanian region of Skurup. The attacked sheep weighed up to 100 kilos and the small number of bite marks indicate that the perpetrator was almost certainly a wolf somewhere between 60-70 kilos as opposed to, say, a dog.
Monetary losses reach somewhere between 60 000 and 80 000 kronor and the owners will likely be insured of the cost. Expert Nils Carlsson says the risk of the wolf approaching humans is very, very small, but notes that the wolf may return for the easy kill.
Lund starts up police controls on cyclists
The police authority in Lund shall start up controls on cyclists across Lund one night a week starting this week. The controls begin at 7 in the evening and continue for a few hours. Controllers will see to it that cyclists follow standard traffic rules – the same that apply to drivers – and will also be checking for proper lighting.
Failure to follow the protocol can lead to fines starting from 500 kronor.
Swedish society soon to rid itself of bills and coins
Swedish phone operator Tre has already begun to call for all purchases by customers to be made by card – NOT by cash. Svensk Handel reports that 70 percent of all Swedish purchases are already done by card and that the value of using cash has decreased by 6 percent yearly in the past few decades.
Many Swedish business owners welcome this trend because, according to Svensk Handel, “cash purchases are both expensive and risky.” A number of businesses indicate robbery as a reason to avoid cash purchases.
Gunnesbo: a new home for Lund University students
LU Accomodation, earlier known as the International Housing Office, will open 35 new “buddy apartments”, in Swedish “kompisboende”, in Gunnesbo starting as soon as November 1st for one of the houses. The new apartments involve two dorms with a shared bathroom and kitchen, and is especially dedicated to international students .
Similar to dorms in the US, the choice of neighbors may be random, but LU Accomodation is open to specific requests. Gunnesbo is a community located 4 minutes by train outside of Lund, also within biking distance.
University Personnel Stressed Out and Dissatisfied with Treatment
Administrative workers at Lund University feel stressed out and disrespected according to a study that has recently been analyzed. The analysis shows that women working in administrative positions were more likely to feel ill at ease at work and disrespected.
Workers involved in scientific research also came through. Up to a third have trouble sleeping. Over half of workers must work overtime to complete necessary tasks. And up to 45 percent say they feel worried and tense. The results have been forwarded to the proper faculty and institutions.
