Government money for bike paths in Lund
Lunds Kommuns tech department will be seeking more money for the improvement of bike paths and other environmentally friendly actions regarding transportation. The department’s top priority is for new and improved bike paths to be built along Ringvägen, along with noise cancellation, and improvement on the commuters’ bike path between Lund and Malmö. The projected cost is roughly 14 million kronor.
Fewer bikes stolen in Lund report Police
Total reported bike thefts have gone down by the hundreds since the summer say police. Bike thefts peaked in the months of July and August and went down in September. Police inform that they have taken two bike thieves into custody and believe that this may help reduce numbers for the fall. Highest risk of theft is in the center of Lund by the train station.
Dan Park, on trial for slander, arrives at the stand again
The case with Dan Park, sentenced for slander and possible hate crime, drags on at the Lund Court of Appeals. In the spring of 2011, Dan Park drew posters with defaming images of Jallow Mamodou, president of the AfroSwedish Association in Malmö and of Hallands Nation representative Ellinor Lavesson, in accordance with a controversial party at Hallands Nation. The Lund Court of Appeals has not changed the Lund district court’s verdict of 6000 kronor in fines and 12 000 kronor in compensation to Mamodou and Lavesson individually. Park continues to stand by his appeal and maintains that no prosecution should take place in defense of free speech.
Infamous criminal Sture Bergwall freed for two more murders
Sture Bergwall aka Thomas Quick will be freed for two more murders. 62-year-old Quick has been in the news since the 1990s in Sweden when he first confessed to multiple murders – up to 30 – in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Over the years, the Swedish judicial system has found that he lied in confession and the number of cases has been narrowed down to 8 of which 5 are no longer in question. Prosecutor Bo Ericsson believes that Quick is not a believable individual and advises the judicial system to question his claim due to lacking evidence.
