Central Lund rocked by explosion 
In the early hours of Monday; an explosive device was detonated outside the Rauhrackel restaurant in central Lund. Windows in the vicinity were shattered and the restaurant door was blown away. The police claim; “it could have ended in tragedy” as the investigation into causes continue. Links are being made to the murder of a member of its staff in february. Questions have been raised on how or if the restaurant will be able to continue after a second act of violence in six months.
The organising students call of the controversial “Official Lund Beer Run” planned for this weekend in light of heightened media attention and critique from the general public. Involving eight pints of beer and five laps of the park, the race was condoned as both illegal and dangerous.
The average age of students is slowly decreasing as the length of courses and degrees are slowly stretching. The constant influx of new students has created a record low starting age for students of 20,7 (down from 21,8) This youthful demographic indicates at the growing number of students wanting to study in Lund and in line with the ever growing student populace.
Doubts loom on the horizon, as questions are raised over security and excess pollution in the waste disposal of the nuclear station Barsebäck, says a new report. The now defunct nuclear power station nearby Lund has stood dormant since 2005 and disassembly is scheduled to be completed 2027. The future however still remains uncertain, as the plant has been dogged by financial issues aswell as a fire in one its turbine halls in 2007.
Questions over admitted Student
After three and a half years of studying medicine, a student from Uzbekistan sought to study in Lund. However, his application was denied on the grounds that he lacked the equivalent of a Swedish; Physics B. But, after an communication with the board of appeals, he has been cleared to study in the country on the grounds that he already has sufficient experience with such a working environment.
