Lund city is arranging a weekend festival, university employees feel neglected by their bosses and researchers propose to build a wind-proof bicycle path between Lund and Malmö. Read the news summary of the week.
The City Park will host a “Young in Lund” festival this Saturday from noon to midnight. All are welcome to come and enjoy a day of summery festivities. Activities will include music and dance, a fire show, art exhibits, and a graffiti tournament.
Researchers are proposing to make the bicycle path between Lund and Malmö windproof. About 3,000 people commute between the cities everyday, and wind is their greatest enemy. Researchers from Lund and Lantbruk University are considering using plant growth along the path as wind protection.
For the first time, Lund University has initiated a study of its own employees’ satisfaction. A strong majority of the respondents stated that their work is meaningful. The numbers paint a worse picture when it concerns career opportunities and leadership, however. Two-thirds said that ideas and proposals for improvement go unheard by the bosses. Also, a third of the workforce experiences problems sleeping.
Competitive ping pong has arrived in Malmö. Malmö resident Adam Hjort has started a ping pong tournament which will be open to the public and take place throughout the summer. Tables will be set up in several public spaces as an attempt to get people to enjoy parts of the city they would otherwise ignore.
The student housing office AF Bostäder will experiment with building new compact rooms. The environmental board has granted permission for such rooms to be constructed. A scientific study of the room’s functionality and tenant satisfaction would follow.
