The next semester foresees the potential need for emergency housing and Bopoolen is in the process of looking for a solution.
”As of right now, we have no replacement for emergency housing,” says the project manager Peter Fransson.
Once again, Lund expects a phenomenal volume of students next semester and the pressing problem of housing begins to stress those in charge.
”It’s really hard to say how many students are coming,” says Peter Fransson, project manager at Bopoolen, Lund’s student unions site for second-hand housing contracts.
Bopoolen, working together with Lunds University and municipality, faces the idea that emergency housing might be necessary next semester.
As for now, they have plans to reserve student accomodation at Vandrarhem Tåget (The Train Hostel) from 20th August to early September.
However, the hostel will be closing at the end of September, making emergency student housing next semester a liability.
”I am content with the efforts we have made, but as of right now, we have no replacement for emergency housing,” says Peter.
The situation is uncertain as the option of emergency housing in Solen last year (an abandoned Kindergarten turned into student housing is no longer available due to it being demolished.
”Last year was the first year Bopoolen acquired emergency housing, and the city has been looking for buildings like Solen throughout the spring,” says Peter.
Initial student housing options for next semester still lie in accomodations in Lund, as well as in Malmö and Helsingborg, however preference for student accomodations in Lund makes the situation more difficult.
”It’s the students’ right to get housing,” says Peter Fransson, project manager of Bopoolen.
