Yes, the time to leave Lund for summer break is approaching fast. But what to do with all your stuff that is too heavy for the 15 kg airline luggage, or just to huge to take it by train or by car? Luise Krumm has some suggestions for you.
Many of us international students will leave Lund around the end of May or beginning of June. But what do you do with the furniture you bought here, the clothes that do not fit in your packed suitcases anymore or the books that you bought for one of your courses that you really do not want to bring home? Here are some suggestions.
Erikshjälpen, is the name of a Swedish second hand shop cooperative that will sell your stuff and donate the profit they make for a good cause. Erikshjälpen Lund is focusing mainly on selling clothes and furniture. Just go by and ask if they are interested in your lund leftovers. Adress: Stora Södergatan 25 Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday 11 am -6 pm, Saturdays 11 am- 3 pm
Lundaböcker: can help you to sell your bike and university books. They charge commissions depending on the price of your stuff and also transfer money abroad if your items get sold. Check out the website for more specific information.
Another option for selling your books is Andrahandsbokhandeln. You can set up an account online and get the money when your books become sold. Note, you might need help of a fluent Swedish speaker as there is no option on the website to do it in English.
Flea markets: you can also try to sell your stuff at Lund’s Saturday flea market at Södra Esplanaden. The fee for a stand is 125 SEK and you can pay it by pressing on ‘Torgtaxa’ on the close by parking machines. The flea markets normally last from 7 am to 3 pm. More information can be found here.
Being concerned with all those organizational matters, it’s probably also time for some last cultural distractions. So why not enjoy the last days with your friends by visiting the ‘Distortion’, a street festival focused on club culture that takes place in Copenhagen from 23rd until 30th of May. Not really club culture but more culture of sustainability is what Planet Lund, the festival week from 12th to 26th of May organized by for example Hallbart Universitet is focusing on. Most events are in Swedish but there are some held in English as well. On the 21st of May you can for instance take part in the sustainable city walk (meeting place: Touristbyran, start time: 1pm) or on Tuesday 22nd there will be a movie screening on the transition movement at Kino (start time: 6:30 pm, place: Kino). On Friday, 25th of May you will have the chance to refine your latin dance moves by going to the Mejeriet’s Salsa party. The event will start at 9pm and teachers from Salsa sabrosa dance school will give you some introductory lessons on how to dance salsa. Later you can directly apply your new skills on the dance floor. Entrance: 60 SEK, No student ID required, from 18 years onwards, more information here
Or what about getting sporty and participating in Krischan Nation’s volleyball tournament on Sunday, 27th of May? You can register a whole team or as a single player.
