This past weekend, two social workers won recognition for their work in Lund and Malmö’s immigrant community during the integration organization Tamam’s annual meeting.
“It feels great,” says one of the winners Ulrika Anzén.
Ulrika Anzén was not surprised but very happy after her hard work. “It felt good to hear that someone appreciates the work we do at Barn i Start.”
Her network based in Lund’s community works to bring together young immigrants and immigrant families.
As Anzén says, “we support refugees with residency permits by helping their children through activities, meetings, mentoring, and parent support groups. The families in our program have been very happy with the progress.”
Tamam awards these prizes annually to diligent social workers in the community. “The prize recipients do not necessarily have to have a connection to Tamam,” says vice chairman Gustaf Sörnmo. “Our hope is that these prizes will help Tamam in the future with our work in social integration.”
Ulrika Anzén, for instance, is not a student or a member of Tamam, but an employee at Socialförvaltningen.
What do you plan on doing in the near future?
“I want to continue working with Barn i Start.” She says that it was especially exciting to receive this award because it became a form of assurance that the organization’s efforts have been worthwhile. “It was good to hear that someone is aware of the good things coming out of our program.”
What is your inspiration?
“I believe it is important for all of us to take care of each other,” concludes Anzén. “That’s what keeps me going.”
While Anzén won Integrationspriset (the Integration Prize) during the meeting, social worker and Tamam member Fredrik Nordberg won the award ‘Flame of the Year’.
Gustaf Sörnmo, vice chairman of the Tamam Student Organization in Lund, said that he has been a great asset to the organization. “He is a fantastic person to have associated with Tamam. I think he will become a key member of the organization in the future.”
