Lund is beautiful. But what is there to do when the student environment starts to bore you? Meet the locals and find your new favorites.
Lundagard.net wants to find the secret spots of Lund and asks people on the streets. Where do the locals go – the ones who actually live here without being students? Every Wednesday we will publish an interview and portrait one recommended location.
Mugens Hej is 80 years old and has lived here since he was 4 years old in Lund. He is a widower and is retired from being a district physician:
“I came to Lund because after I became a widower and retired, I looked for a livelier, active place. Therefore, I enjoy wandering around the main squares of Lund, Stortorget and Martenstorget. There are beautiful historic buildings and a lot of people here. Something is always going on. For eating, I like to go to Saluhallen, the food mall at Mårtenstorget, where you can get a very good lunch. The concert hall next to the city hall offers a wide program of cultural events, which I recommend to check. But you should know: the best place to be is where you stand.”
Lena Lindquist is 53 years old and came to Lund from Gothenburg 20 years ago. She works for the police:
“There is one place everyone should know about: Lilla Caféet (Lilla Tvärgatan 2). I´m there at least once a week, but I could go there every day. All the bread and the cakes are homemade. You can have snacks like sandwiches, sweet pies, waffles and cookies. The special thing is that the place employs people with mental illnesses. I know most of them. But beside that, the café is very cozy and has a glass veranda and a little garden.”
